How the CNSS calculates your pension

The old-age pension depends on two figures: your declared contribution days and your reference salary. The reference salary is the average of your declared salaries over the last 96 months (eight years), capped at the contribution ceiling of MAD 6,000 a month. At 3,240 days, about ten and a half full-time years, the pension is 50% of that reference salary. Each full extra tranche of 216 days adds one point, up to 70% at 7,560 days. A full-right pension cannot be below MAD 1,000 nor above MAD 4,200 a month.

Example: a 60-year-old with 6,000 days and an average declared salary of MAD 5,000 gets 50% + 12 points (2,760 days beyond 3,240, i.e. 12 tranches of 216) = 62% of 5,000, or MAD 3,100 a month. With a declared salary of MAD 15,000, the calculation uses 6,000: 62% × 6,000 = MAD 3,720, a quarter of the real salary. That is why executives usually add a complementary pension (CIMR).

Under 3,240 days: the flat pension since 2025

Until 2025, an employee short of 3,240 days was only entitled to a refund of contributions. Law 02.24 and decree 2.25.265, applied by the CNSS since 1 May 2025, now open a flat pension from 1,320 days: MAD 600 a month from 1,320 to 1,704 days, then MAD 100 more per tier of 384 days, up to MAD 1,000 between 2,857 and 3,239 days. The amount includes AMO health coverage and does not depend on salary. People retired since 1 January 2023 can claim it retroactively through the Taawydati portal or an agency.

An employee close to 3,240 days should reach that threshold: moving from the flat pension (MAD 1,000 at most) to a salary-based pension can triple the amount. The simulator shows exactly how many days you are missing.

Undeclared days: the real risk for your retirement

The CNSS only knows what your employers declared. Months worked without declaration, salaries declared at the minimum wage while you earned more, an employer gone without regularising: each anomaly reduces your days or your reference salary, hence your pension, for the rest of your life. Check your career statement on macnss.ma well before 60 and keep your payslips and contracts.

In case of a gap, regularisation goes through a claim with the CNSS and then, if the employer refuses or has disappeared, an action before the labour court: the Labour Code and the 1972 dahir require employers to register and declare every employee, under penalty and with liability for the missing contributions. A labour lawyer builds the evidence file (contracts, payslips, testimonies, bank statements) and starts the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can you retire under the CNSS in Morocco?
At 60 in the general scheme (55 for miners with at least five years underground). Early retirement between 55 and 59 is possible with 3,240 contribution days, the employer’s agreement and a one-off premium paid by the employer to the CNSS. A reform gradually raising the legal age is under discussion, but no law is in force as of November 2026.
How many contribution days are needed for a CNSS pension?
3,240 days open the full-right pension (50% of the reference salary). Since 1 May 2025, a flat pension of MAD 600 to 1,000 is granted from 1,320 days. Below 1,320 days no pension is due, but the employee share of contributions can be refunded. The CNSS counts 26 days a month, i.e. 312 days for a full year.
What is the maximum CNSS pension?
MAD 4,200 a month: the 70% maximum rate (reached at 7,560 days) applied to the MAD 6,000 ceiling. Whatever your real salary, the part above MAD 6,000 is not taken into account. Complementary pensions (CIMR, insurance) are paid separately.
How is the reference salary calculated?
It is the average of the monthly salaries declared to the CNSS over the last 96 months (eight years) before retirement, each month capped at MAD 6,000. Badly declared final years therefore weigh directly on the pension.
My employer did not declare me to the CNSS, what can I do?
First get your career statement on macnss.ma and file a claim with the CNSS with your evidence (contract, payslips, transfers). If the employer does not regularise, an action before the labour court can establish the employment relationship and the liability for contributions. A labour lawyer secures the evidence and the deadlines.
Does the simulator replace the CNSS liquidation?
No. It applies the legal rules to your own figures to give you an order of magnitude and the number of days to the next step. Only the CNSS liquidates the pension from your actually declared career, after the claim file is submitted.
